The 4 Main Types of Renewable Energy

!±8± The 4 Main Types of Renewable Energy

As the world reaches its energy crisis we need to reduce our dependence on non-renewable energy sources, and start generating renewable energy on a massive scale.

To date there are four main types of renewable energy that we can produce: wind power, solar power, hydro power, and geothermic power.

Wind Power:
Wind turbines have been around for millennia, further back than the birth of Christ. Over the years they have been used to pump water, drag boats and grind flour. But at the turn of the industrial revolution, wind turbines were made to produce electricity.

Although many people envision windmills as those ornate ones in Holland or the small wind-pumps on farms, they have been developed tremendously in the past decade. Now wind turbines are able to generate thousands of megawatts of power, and when used on a small scale at home, wind power can substitute conventional energy sources, helping households to get off the grid.

Solar Power:
The sun is the most readily available form of energy there is, so we should be using it to a larger extent. And as technology advances, households are provided with a number of ways to harness the power of the sun. These ways include solar electricity, solar heaters, solar dryers and solar cookers.

With solar electric and heating systems, they are both cost-effective, good for the environment, they require little maintenance and help you save on your utility bills. Solar cookers are very healthy way of cooking food, since they cook the food at a lower temperature-helping to retain its vitamins and minerals. They are also very portable, making them ideal for travelers and campers.

Hydro Power:
Initially hydro or water power was used industrially to rivers and waterfalls to power waterwheels that would then be used to move water for irrigation or grind flour.

Today hydro power is used in dams to produce electricity for households and businesses. Hydro-electric power is generate on a large scale where dammed up water is channeled through turbines, which spins a dynamo as it gushes through. The best example of hydro-electric power would be the Hoover Dam, which was built to provide electricity to Las Vegas. In fact hydro-electric power is efficient is popular nowadays that it accounts for over 90% of the worlds renewable energy.

There have been some social and environmental concerns about building dams for hydroelectricity since entire village and communities are flooded by the dam, and the walls prevent certain species of fish from swimming upstream to spawn.

Geothermal Power:
Geothermal power is typically produced in areas with ongoing volcanic activity, where magma is relatively close to the surface. One such area is Iceland, where a large proportion of its power is produced from volcanic geysers.

Here, large power plants are built over the geysers, where hot fast-moving steam from the geysers drives large turbines to make electricity. To speed up the process, water is sometimes pumped back into the geysers to make more steam, which is then used to drive the turbines once again, thus making it an endless cycle.

Well, this concludes our brief overview of the 4 main types of renewable energy. You can find out more in-depth information on each type by reading our other articles or browsing our website in the link below.

Get serious with your sinuses. The Grossan Hydro Pulse Sinus System is the first pulsating system specifically for nasal and sinus irrigation. Not just a cleanse or rinse, the pulsating action is clinically proven to make your sinus cilia - the body's first line of defense against contagions, pollen, and foreign matter - work better. Invented by MD specialist Murray Grossan, this is the serious but pleasant way to good sinus health in a medically recognized (covered in dozens of medical journal articles) but drug-free way. Featured in Time Magazine's Best Inventions Report. Elevated pollen got you down? The Hydro Pulse restores sinus cilia to good health so they can rapidly eliminate pollen from the body - without expensive drugs and their side effects. This is a pleasant treatment done at home, designed to be super-gentle, especially when used with our Breathe-ease solution. Over a quarter of a million users, as young as six years old. Pots, bulbs, other methods might "clean" your nose, sort of - but they're messy, difficult to use, and do not pulsate. Pulsatile irrigation is different; it actually restores your own body's health maintenance system, the sinus cilia. The Hydro Pulse is also convenient - never messy - always gentle and pleasant. The unit does all the work for you, our convenient thumb switch makes it easy. Bonus: Fresher Breath. The Hydro Pulse System includes a three-way advanced breath freshening system. Research shows that breath problems come from the nose and throat (not the stomach as is commonly thought.) Our system inlcudes a special tip for complete breath control. System includes: Base unit, 2 Sinus tips, 2 Throat tips/integral tongue cleaners (for breath control), Breathe-ease irrigation solution samples, and complete instructions.

Pegasus Sink Faucets - A Study of Three Very Different Designs

!±8± Pegasus Sink Faucets - A Study of Three Very Different Designs

When choosing a sink faucet, it's no longer an issue of mere utility; it's also an issue of design. Kitchen sink faucets have grown up from the simple, chrome fixtures of our youth into studies of character, depth and exquisite accents.  With folks taking exceptional pride in their homes as a reflection of themselves, interior design has taken a solid stand.  This is particularly true in the kitchen.

To address the wants and needs of today's discriminating consumer, many top brands have gone beyond the utilitarian function of sink faucets and have begun to place emphasis on their design.  One of today's affordable, contemporary top-brands--Pegasus faucets--has addressed this need in fine form.  Here are three prime examples of Pegasus sink faucets where form follows function, simply yet elegantly.

The Pegasus K300 Series Faucet

The K300 Series Faucet instantly brings style and elegance to any kitchen décor, with its two spray modes head and chrome styling.

Easily installed, this functional, single-hole, single-handle Italian beauty boasts a dual-mode spray head swivel spout.  The K300 is Energy Star compliant and includes a built-in water filter. This swivel base pull-out chrome faucet also includes 2 spray modes, solid brass waterways, and a drip-free ceramic disk cartridge.

Some who've purchased the K300 provide rave reviews:

"We like the attractive styling and industrial feel. The whole faucet has good heft to it and looks to be made of good materials. The single faucet lever is easy to operate and the faucet arm swings over both of our sinks. You can detach the sprayer from the arm if you want to point it in another direction.

Lately, the chic, industrial design of this professional-use faucet style is highly acclaimed for its ability to allow you to pinpoint the water spray exactly where it needs to go.  For those who appreciate the clean European styling of Pegasus and want to get the industrial functionality of a sprayer-style faucet, the Pegasus K300 offers a nice solution.

The Pegasus PE8526008SS Deco Bridge Sink Faucet

If traditional design is your preference, then the Deco Bridge Sink Faucet may be right up your alley.  This two handle faucet features four-hole installation with lever handles and matching spray. As with all two-handle faucets, having separate hot and cold taps provides you with accurate control to mix the desired water temperature.

Features include:

1/2 inch IPS inlets 13.37 inch spout height 10.87 inch aerator clearance 9.75 inch spout reach and 1.62 inch maximum deck thickness.

The Pegasus PE8526008SS Deco Bridge sink faucet is also available in a stainless steel finish.

The Pegasus PEUSPW5668YE

The Pegasus PEUSPW5668YE Kitchen Faucet is constructed of metal, has loop style handle, pullout spout and hydro lock quick connect installation. The temperature is controlled by 180 degree arc of handle travel, and the spout rotation is 145 degrees. It will operate with less than 5 pounds of force and the faucet operates in stream or spray mode in the pullout or retracted position.

This fine addition to the Pegasus sink faucet family features 1225 cartridge design made of nonmetallic/nonferrous and stainless steel material, which is available in various finishes. The backflow protection system in this faucet consists of two independently operating check valves, a primary and a secondary which prevent backflow.

Whether you prefer the industrial functionality of the K300 or the country-home look of the Deco Bridge sink or the clean, simple lines of the single-hole, single-handle Pegasus PEUSPW5668YE, you'll agree that sink faucet design has matured over the past few years.  You now have a choice to express your personality in the kitchen with faucet fixtures that match your personality and style, and provide functionality for years to come.
